Grimm Brother's Cinderella
A rich man's wife is dying and with her last words she tells her daughter, "Dear child, remain pious and good, and then our dear God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you."
Every day the girl went to her mother's grave and wept. Her father eventually took another wife. The wife brought her two daughters with. They were beautiful but had evil hearts. They dressed her in gray smocks and wooden shoes, forcing her to work hard for anything she got.
Her father was going to the fair and was asking his daughters what they wanted. Cinderella replied with she wanted the first branch that brushes his hat.
Her father brought her back that branch and Cinderella planted it on her mother's grave. With how much she cries a beautiful tree grew.
The king announced a festival that all the young girls in the land were invited too. Cinderella begged her stepmother to go, but she replied with the fact she didn't have clothes or shoes for the dance. Cinderella kept asking and the step-mother stated that if she were to clean up all the lentils in the ashes in two hours she could go with. Cinderella called upon the birds, and they helped get all of the lentils into a bowl.
Even though she cleaned everything up, the stepmother still wouldn't let her go, because she didn't have anything to wear. So Cinderella went to her mother's grave and cried under the tree. She wished for something to wear and the birds brought her a gold and silver dress with silk and silver slippers. Her stepmother and sisters didn't notice her and the prince only danced with her.
The next day the birds the brought back a more amazing dress, and once again the prince only dance with her, but no one still knew who she was. The third day she got another dress and slippers made of gold. Once again, the prince danced with only her, when she was running away the prince had made sure to set a trap. He had smeared the entire stairway with pitch. Her left slipper got stuck and the prince picked it up, knowing that the only person who could be his wife was the one who fit into the slipper.
The two sisters tried on the shoe. The first daughters big toe didn't fit, so the mother suggest cutting it off, after all as queen she would no longer have to go on foot. The prince took the girl, but the went by the grave and the birds screamed that there was blood was on the shoe. The prince notice, bringing her back to her house.
The second sister's heel didn't fit into the shoe. Once again, the mother suggests that the sister cut off the heel, because once she was the queen she won't need to go on feet. Once again, the birds called out the false bride, and the prince took her back to the house.
The prince ask if he has any other daughters. He responds that there is only a deformed little Cinderella from his first wife, but she can't be the bride. The wife states that she is too dirty. Cinderella was brought down and the slipper fit. She became the wife of the prince, In the end the two sisters got their eyes plucked out for their wickedness.
Brothers Grimm
The Grimm brothers were two brothers named Jacob and Wilhelm from Germany. They created a collection of stories that they heard orally. Most of them weren't actually created by the Grimm brothers. The brothers were influenced by German Romanticism, and choose to study folklore. Though the fairytales that they published were aimed towards adults, since the context of the stories were dark and harsher than before.
German Romanticsm
The French Revolution influenced the romanticism movement in Europe and Germany. The movement dated from the late 18th century to the mid-18th century. The romanticism was a revolt against authority, order, and Classical order. The romanticism movement contributed to the rise of German nationalism. It was primarily in literature and art.
