Roma

The term "gypsy" is considered pejorative by some Roma. This is because of the fact that the name was driven by the fact that people thought that they had originated from Egypt. Though they had original came from the Punjab region of India. Roma entered Europe in the 8th to the 10th century. Though the began their big migration in the 15th century. Roma were living in Spain, France, England, and large parts of what is today Russia and Eastern Europe by the late 1400s.

The Roma were targets of discrimination. Countries passed laws to supress their culture. At the beginning of the 15th century, Romas were forced into slavery by Hungarian and Romanian nobles who needed laborers for their large estates. Then during World War 2, there was a genocide towards the Roma.

The Roma also get fictional misrepresented. In literature, and art they are present as romantic people. They are also represented with having magical powers of fortune telling.

Esmeralda

Esmeralda is a character in the Hunchback of Norte Dame. This story takes place in Paris in the 15th century. Quasimodo is the bell ringer for a church. He comes out and meets Esmeralda and Phoebus, then the three of them go against a man named Frollo.

Esmeralda isn't considered a Disney Princess, but she still is a popular female character in the Disney scene. Her gypsy character was so popular that adaptations of the story were actually named after her. Esmeralda is extremely street smart, but she doesn't have smarts when it comes romance. She follows her heart blindly and is naive when it comes to love.
